Suddenly, I remember the day when I had interview at one of English courses in Jakarta. It was really funny and also shameful for me...yes, me..as the job seeker..
there were some mistakes that I made during the interview (and I remember all of them clearly)
1. too comfortable
As a person who had been interviewed, I should remember not getting too comfortable in the interview room. and, YES! I did it...hm..I meant, I was too comfortable...so, when I entered the room, the interviewer was sitting behind his desk, and I sat in front of him then...I shake his hand (to show that I was confidence enough to start the interview, which is I was not) and....I put both of my arms..(is it arms anyway?)..on his table...so, I was just like a student who is asked to come a principle's office and put both arms on the table while listening to the principle's comment...:: SHAME ON ME!
2. moving eyeballs too much
When I was answering his question, I moved my eyeballs to the wall, to the window, everywhere but his eyes....OMG! fortunately, I realized it then I stared at him when he was asking questions or giving some information....you should bear in mind that 'EYE CONTACT IS IMPORTANT" (it shows your confidence anyway)
3. speaking not really fluent (choosing the WRONG VOCABULARY)
OMG! this is the worst of the worse.
at the beginning of the interview, I was nervous, yes I was..because I haven't prepared yet.
Then the interviewers asked,
'tell me about yourself'
and I answered (by showing a little bit confidence)
"actually, I don't come from Indonesia" [WHAT??!!]
the interviewer just 'mangut2'
and I spontaneously said 'eh..I meant Jakarta'
(double mistakes: 'I don't come'? it should be 'I am not from' and 'Jakarta' not 'Indonesia'!!!)
4. giving (like) careless feedback
When the interviewer was explaining about the job, the company, and the system, I didn't give any oral feedback at all....actually, I did give feedback, I moved my head up and down showing that I was listening to him...I think it's not enough...it would be better if I said something instead of moving my head only.
5. Smiling a lot..(too much)
I smiled all the time during the interview. I was just like a little kid who was listening to a story and could not stop showing happy expression. I can't control my face expression..but I have to learn how to control it anyway...smiling is a good thing, but if it is too much then (I think) people will think that you are lack of confidence! On a job interview, we have to look Professional not FRIENDLY!
I was really nervous at the beginning and it ends up I was too comfortable (to make any mistakes)...hahahaha...
Even though the interviewer said 'I get impress of you (your answer)' - (I forget the exact line), I still can not forget the mistakes that I made during the interview.....really really shame on me....
*I got the job anyway..(yeah :unbelievable)
