“Desperate housewives” series is one of the most popular American TV series in 2004. This TV series shows many problems related to American families, especially their housewives’ problems. Even though this TV-series seems as usual as other American TV-series, but “desperate housewife” actually reflects common American’s family problems in daily life. Somewhat, I can see this series actually showing what actually happen in American family in reality.
There are some reasons why I chose this series as my thesis topic. At first, I’m willing to do research on something which I like and this is what I like. I love American TV series, and almost in every American-series I can see how is American’s life is. Why I chose “desperate housewives” is because like I said before this series offers many values that related to American family. Second, American’s life is very interesting to learn. Their culture, their habitual, and include their problem in life. Problem in one life can be the main reason for some actions in the future or in the past. And the last, I personally think that from others’ problem, we can learn the good way to solve the problem.
The research that I am going to do is to find what actually the main values in “desperate housewives” series and at the end try to find out, is it truly reflected American family life in the real life? I am going to do much reading and researching to find out and understand life of American family, included their most common problems, and compare with what happen in the series. If they are connected then it means my hypothesis is true.
The main goal of this research is to prove that American series “desperate housewives” actually reflects American family life in common. And if is it true than people can understand what actually American family’s life looks like, what problems they usually face, and how they solve their problems. At the end, people, especially Indonesian, can compare their families’ common problems and American family’s and for its similarities they can learn how to solve problem in better way.
